Arteta says he should have sent Balogun on loan earlier than he did

Arsenal decided to loan out Folarin Balogun in the January transfer window as he joined Championship side Middlesbrough.

Following a successful spell with the England Under-21 side, Mikel Arteta was asked about Balogun ahead of his side’s return to the Premier League.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday night’s clash with Crystal Palace, Arteta admitted Arsenal should have loaned the 20-year-old out earlier.

“I think Flo is doing what he has to do,” Arteta said.

“We probably should have done it earlier. He plays a different formation under a manager and a club with a huge history.

“It gives us more information and details on the best decision for him in his future.”

There are high hopes for Balogun and Arsenal need more to take them to the next level in the years to come.

Balogun isn’t ready yet but Arteta seems happy with the loan in terms of seeing him play regularly and assessing his development.

Arsenal still need an elite striker ready for next season, but perhaps Balogun could learn from this North London man…
